Allium ursinum

This photo was taken on the end of the "acer path" on 2.5.2008.

This plant is quite rare in The Netherlands and is a protected species. It smells strongly of garlic. The name "ursinum" has been given to it as it is said that bears made a bee line for it after their winter sleep. (Can bear's make a bee line?!). It flowers from April to June, is 30-40 cm high and spreads. It grows best in moist humus rich soil in light shade.
