Chelone obliqua

Photo taken on 11.09 2005 in the summer borders. Chelones spread by underground runners and can form very large clumps if not kept under control. They are natives of marshy places in N. America and are at home in water logged soils but also do well on well drained soil. They flower at the end of the summer when other summer blooms are beginning to fade.
