Leycesteria formosa "Golden Lanterns"

Photo taken in Simmer borders on 23.7.2007. The common name for this plant is "Grandmother's earrings" and is very apt. The "Golden Lanterns" variety is particularly spectacular with its deep purple bracts and white flowers against the yellow-golden foliage. It flowers continuously from July until well into autumn and always attracts a lot of attention. New leaves also have a reddish tinge and in autumn it is adorned with purplish berries. it will grow in full sun or partial shade and grows to about 1 - 1.5 meters high.
