Poncirus trifoliata

Photo taken on 8.10.2006 in the summer borders. This is a winter hard citrus, however the fruits which form in autumn are very bitter, but apparently they can be used in liquors, (but I have never tried this). If you want a plant to keep out unwanted intuders then this is the plant as the spines are very sharp and 1-2 inches long. It grows to about 6meters but can be pruned. Be careful where you plant it, as the spines are treacherous.
