Arbutus unedo "Rubra"

Photo taken on 24.10.2004 in the rose garden. The "Strawberry Tree" - but once tried - never again!! - although it is edible. The fruits are extremely bitter. It is a small evergreen tree which prefers a sheltered position and dislikes cold winds. The tree produces masses of beautiful white flowers in November and December, which take a year to ripen, so that the tree carries both flowers and fruit at the same time.
