Dryopteris crispa Whiteside

Photos taken on 23rd May 2010 on the "Beech arch path" in the wood. A pretty deciduous fern with beutifully cristate
(divided) edges to the pinnae, the whole frond is finely dissected. The plant forms a rough shuttlecock shape which reaches around 60 cms wide, The plant overwinters as a cluster of brown leaf scales, the new growth emerging from the
centre. Midribs of the new croziers are a rich deep brown as they unfurl.
